Septic Tank Installation in Miami-Dade and Broward must follow state and local permitting, design and inspection requirements before the system can legally be placed into service. Champion Septic Tank works with property owners, contractors and project professionals to coordinate the installation process around the approved septic design. Applications generally require information about the property, a site plan, building floor plan, wastewater flow and site evaluation, and the approved system must be installed and inspected according to the issued permit. Soil conditions, groundwater elevation, property setbacks, water supply, proximity to wells or surface water, sewage flow and available drain field area can all affect the type and configuration of septic system that can be approved.

For Broward County, OSTDS permits are issued through the local county health department. Florida DEP says the new-system application generally includes DEP 4015, a site plan, building floor plan and applicable fee, with permitting and inspections handled locally. 

For Miami-Dade, there is a major additional requirement: since January 1, 2023, a conventional Type 1 septic system cannot be used for a new installation or total replacement. New and total replacement OSTDS projects require DERM review/approval and must meet Miami-Dade’s performance-based treatment standards; the County’s guidance states that designs must be prepared by a Florida Professional Engineer. The required treatment level can depend on sewage flow, land use, water supply, wellfield location and proximity to surface waters.
